Hundreds of thousands of cats roam the metropolis of Istanbul. For thousands of years they’ve wandered in and out of people’s lives, an essential part of the city communities. Neither wild nor tame, the cats bring joy and purpose to those people they choose to adopt.

Born in Istanbul, the director spent her early years among the street cats.
For this documentary she returned to the city, and says “no grandmother, no generation has been here without cats, so they’re ingrained in our collective memory. People tend to be in awe of the freedom cats have, their ability to go in and out of almost anywhere… cats provide this wonderful opportunity for people to be affectionate with a being that doesn’t judge them.”

Critics and internet cats agree — this documentary will charm its way into your heart and home as you fall in love with the cats of Istanbul.
